How Social media affects self-esteem

“I know people that if they post a status and get no likes, they will delete it,” said Merlyn Thomas, 18, Columbia College Chicago student. “I think it’s because they want people to be interested in them, because if they look interesting to other people maybe they’ll look interesting to you.”

“I feel like if people post selfies where they’re all dressed up and don’t get any likes, it makes them feel unattractive,” Joyce Dyels, 22, said. “The more likes someone gets, the higher their self-esteem is, because they feel liked by other people.”
